Dream Journal

I don’t know about for the rest of you, but dreams have always been one of the most fascinating parts of life for me. I imagine it as though our brains are playing little movies for us on projectors with our eyelids the screens to keep us distracted while our body goes to work repairing itself and recuperating from the day prior. I grew up having some of the wildest dreams and felt like some mornings I could wake up exhausted because of how much energy I was expending in my dreams. What our mind is able to unfurl out of thin air will never cease to amaze me and I will never fail to have curiosity over the messages dreams try to send us.

Now, obviously it is hard to remember the dream you just had. Sometimes it is gone within a minute of waking up, which brings me to the main point… I want to encourage all of us to keep a dream journal! I feel it could be a wonderous and exciting activity and help build our community here, so I want us to be able to post about our dreams in this space and have an open discussion over what goes on inside our heads while we sleep!

Send in your dream(s)!

My First Dream — A Zombie Nightmare

I must’ve only been three or four years old at the time I had the first dream I still remember vividly to this day. I had to be that young because I was not in school yet, however, my two older brothers (8.5 and 12.5 years older) were well into their middle school years and beyond. I recall that this night before they went to bed for school the next morning, I spent several hours watching them play a video game on Playstation 1, Resident Evil.
For whatever reason, my adolescent brain was drawn to it and after my brothers and parents were asleep, I snuck down the basement. It is the one and only time I recall being able to open the gate at the top of the stairs that was there to keep me from going downstairs alone. I got down there, managed to power up the game and start playing…but no matter what buttons I hit I was unable to do anything to the swarming zombies and my character was eaten alive. I was flustered and upset not being able to do anything to the zombies, so I quickly shut the game off and returned upstairs to go to bed. Then came the dream…
I was standing in my parent’s bedroom but staring at an empty bed. I felt a presence behind me, and turned in horror to see a zombie gazing blankly back at me. I hurried over to the top of a staircase, for some reason freezing and not scurrying down them. I stood at the top of the stairs, catching sight of my mother below at the bottom, her back to me while she oddly was dusting off a portrait on the wall. I looked back and forth from my mother below to the zombie that had followed me and was lurking just behind. After doing this multiple times, my body made its decision to take a leap of faith all the way from the top of the stairs, and as I fell into a black abyss…
I woke up.
